If you think a page should be deleted, read the deletion policy to make sure.

Before nominating: checks and alternatives

Prior to nominating article(s) for deletion, please be sure to:

A. Read and understand these policies and guidelines

1. The Wikipedia deletion policy, which explains valid grounds for deletion.
2. The main four guidelines and policies that inform deletion discussions: notability (WP:N), verifiability (WP:V), reliable sources (WP:RS), and what Wikipedia is not (WP:NOT)
3. Subject-specific notability guidelines, which can be found at Category:Wikipedia notability guidelines

B. Carry out these checks

1. Confirm that the article does not meet the criteria for quick deletion.
2. If there are verifiability, notability or other sourcing concerns, take reasonable steps to search for reliable sources. (See step D.)
3. Review the article's history to check for potential vandalism or poor editing.
4. Read the article's talk page for previous nominations and/or that your objections haven't already been dealt with.
5. Check "What links here" in the article's sidebar, to see how the page is used and referenced within Wikipedia.
6. Check if there are interlanguage links, also in the sidebar, which may lead to more developed and better sourced articles. Likewise, search for native-language sources if the subject has a name in a non-Latin alphabet (such as Japanese or Greek), which is often in the lead.

C. Consider whether the article could be improved rather than deleted

1. If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a candidate for RfD.
2. If the article was recently created, please consider allowing the contributors more time to develop the article.
3. If an article has issues try first raising your concerns on the article's talk page, with the main contributors, and/or adding a cleanup tag, such as {{notability}}, {{hoax}}, {{original research}}, or {{advert}}; this ensures readers are aware of the problem and may act to fix it.
4. If the topic is not important enough to merit an article on its own, consider merging or redirecting to an existing article. This should be done particularly if the topic name is a likely search term.

D. Search for additional sources, if the main concern is notability

1. The minimum search expected is a normal Google search, a Google Books search, a Google News search, and a Google News archive search; Google Scholar is suggested for academic subjects.
2. If you find a lack of sources, you've completed basic due diligence before nominating. However, if a quick search does find sources, this does not always mean an RfD on a sourcing basis is unwarranted. If you spend more time examining the sources, and determine that they are insufficient, e.g., because they only contain passing mention of the topic, then an RfD nomination may still be appropriate.
3. If you find that adequate sources do appear to exist, the fact that they are not yet present in the article is not a proper basis for a nomination. Instead, you should consider citing the sources, or at minimum apply an appropriate template to the page that flags the sourcing concern. Common templates include {{unreferenced}}, {{refimprove}}, {{third-party}}, {{primary sources}} and {{one source}}.

Discussed deletion

Put the deletion tag on the article.

1. Click "Change source" at the top of the page to be deleted.
2. In the edit box, add this tag: {{rfd|REASON}}. Put it at the top of the page, above the rest of the text. Then, replace the text "REASON" with a short reason why the page should be deleted. Do not be too specific here. You can add more details on the discussion page (see below).
   • It is a good idea to write a change summary to let others know what you are doing. You can say "nominating for deletion", "requesting deletion", or something like that.
3. Click "Save changes" at the bottom to save the page with the deletion tag at the top.
   • You can also check the "Watch this page" check box to add the page to your watchlist. This lets you know if the page for deletion has been changed. If the deletion tag is removed any time before the discussion is closed, it should be put back.

Create a discussion page.

1. If the deletion tag has been added to the page, a box should appear at the top of the article with a link saying "Click here to create a discussion page!" Click that link.
2. You should be taken to a page starting with "Creating Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/..." along with the current year and the name of the article to be deleted. In the edit box, the following tag should have already been added: {{RfD/Preload/Template}} . Replace the text PLACE REASON HERE with a more detailed reason why the page should be deleted.
   • It is helpful to include links to the various policy pages about Wikipedia (that begin with Wikipedia:). Here are some examples of this: "This article is [[Wikipedia:COMPLEX|not easy to understand]]" or "Not a [[Wikipedia:notable|notable]] topic''. This will make others more aware of why the page is not acceptable under Wikipedia's policies.
3. Click "Save changes" to save the new discussion page when you are done.
   • A change summary you can write for this page is "creating discussion page", "starting deletion discussion", or something like that.
   • As with the page for deletion, you can check the "Watch the page" box. This will let you know if someone else has replied to your discussion.

List it here

1. Copy the title of the discussion page to the clipboard. You can do this by dragging the mouse over the text from "Wikipedia" to the end of the page title to highlight it, then right-clicking and selecting "Copy".
2. Go to the list of deletion requests, and click "change source" beside the words "Current deletion request discussions".
3. At the top of the list of discussions, paste the title from the clipboard (right-click and select "Paste"). Add a pair of curly brackets before and after the title to make a template that will copy the content of the discussion page onto the main deletion page, like this:

   {{Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/(name of page to be deleted)}}

4. Finally, click "Save changes" to add the discussion to the list. If the page saves successfully, you should see your deletion discussion at the top of the list. And that's it!

If this is too complicated for you, there are some gadgets like Twinkle that you can use. This allows you to do it faster.

Quick deletion

If you think a page has nonsense content, add {{non}} to the top of the page.

If you think a page does not say why the subject is important, add {{notable}} to the top of the page.

If you think a page should be deleted per other quick deletion rules, add {{QD|reason}} to the top of the page.

Notifying the user

Generally, you should try to be civil and tell the user that created the page to join the discussion talking about the page. This can be done by adding {{subst:RFDNote|page to be deleted}} ~~~~ to the bottom of their talkpage.

• Requests for deletion is not a war zone. You can click here for more information, although the page is not in Simple English.

Remember: You do not have to make a suggestion for every nomination. You should think about not making a suggestion if:

1. A nomination involves a topic that you do not know much about.
2. Everyone has made the same suggestion and you agree with that suggestion.

Hello DaneGeld,

As you probably realize, I am very new to creating a Wiki article. This one was my first attempt to test the waters as it were.

Can you tell me what "Not covered by QD" refers to? Any suggestions?

I do have a full CV on my web site so that is not the intention of my Wiki... however, I am sure I am now yet aware of the flavor of it.

Does this mean my user is deleted or just the page I was working on?

Hi Mjrhoades. QD is an abbreviated name for one of our processes for removing things from the site, it refers to "Quick Deletion". Items can only be deleted in this way, if they fall into certain categories, such as not being written in English, if they are written again after being deleted, and so on.

Because this article doesn't fit into those categories, I put it here so that others can make a decision on what they think. Your userpage hasn't been deleted yet, but it will be for other members of the site to vote on, based on what you have on your user page. You however, as a user, will not be deleted because of this.

I hope you will continue to edit here - it can be a little disheartening for someone to see their work being voted on to possibly be removed. Please don't take it personally! Regards to you, Christian DaneGeld (talk) 21:55, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

  I don't consider my adding a category to be a decline. I think was working on uncategorized pages at the time, regardless of what else was going on with the article. The category would be needed if the article ends up being kept, so why not go ahead and add it? Extended argument

The subject of this article is not notable. Looking up "Nikolai Kurbatov" on Google yields mostly user-generated sites such as Instagram, IMDb, YouTube, etc., with no significant, independent, and reliable coverage that would demonstrate why the subject is notable. Excluding those sites still does not yield any significant coverage. Looking up his Russian name (Николай Курбатов), I still could not find any significant coverage about the subject. Taking a look at the article itself, it suffers from a lack of good citations. There are several awards listed in the first paragraph but only one is given a citation. According to Google Translate, the citation is for a "letter of gratitude". Sources 2 and 3 are used to cite the claim entered the Europe Book of Records as the mentally disabled person with the largest number of awards. What exactly is the "Europe Book of Records"? Is it the one linked by http://europebookofrecords.com/? I couldn't find anything about this supposed record book, so if it exists I doubt that it is a notable record database. In addition, this is a very specific record category. I don't think that this category lends enough distinctiveness for notability. Sources 4 and 5 are used to cite the claim highest rated movie trailer. Highest rated according to what? According to Google Translate, source 5 says The record was set on August 8, when the video collected more than 12 thousand views. I'm sorry, but 12,000 views is not close to being notable, nor is it a record. Source 4 says His video has gained more than 12 thousand views and about 400 likes on YouTube - it is the highest-rated trailer of Russian production. Unfortunately dislikes have been hidden by YouTube so it's not possible to tell how many dislikes it received. I also doubt the claim "highest-rated trailer of Russian production". Source 7 has a link to what appears to be this video, but it has since been made private. Source 6-10 are a bit excessive to cite the claims "video with the most likes without dislikes on YouTube", "video with the most views without dislikes on YouTube". Source 6 says At the same time, none of the thousands of Internet users gave it a dislike. This is not really that impressive. Before dislikes were you could find a number of videos with thousands of likes and no dislikes, these were usually videos with less than 100,000 views from smaller communities. Source 7 says about another video viewed by almost 18 thousand users without a single dislike, thanks to which its author entered the Russian Book of Records for the second time. This is also not notable. Both videos have since been taken down. Source 8 says "the most liked video without any dislikes" (uploaded in March 2014). So far, none of these sources give any proof for the claims, not even a screenshot. Sources 9 and 10 are interviews, which disqualifies them from being independent from the subject. Now, for the Wikipedia-related claims. There are eleven sources for the claim "the largest number of publications in Wikipedia by one author from Russia". This record is likely the best out of the others for establishing notability. For some reason, source 11-22 all say something similar to this: Nikolay Kurbatov said that he writes his articles from scratch. He writes them in Russian, Italian, English, German, French and many other European languages. In addition, he knows Haitian, Creole and other languages ​​that are unusual for us. You may notice the pattern that some of these records are local or specific, and that coverage about him centers mostly about his records, not a lot about the subject himself. For these reasons, I conclude that the subject is not notable.

It is also worth noting that this article was deleted several times in the past twelve years on the English Wikipedia: en:Nikolai_Kurbatov, and that User:Nikolai Kurbatov is asking one of the deleting admins to restore the page: en:Special:Permalink/1255351778#Nikolai_Kurbatov just a few days before the Simple English Wikipedia article was created. The article was also created and deleted several times on the Russian Wikipedia: ru:Курбатов, Николай Иванович.

  Using AI isn't specifically prohibited by our content policies – at least, not yet – however as I mentioned, simply asking it like this is not a great base for the article to start off. AI, imo, can play a role in aiding content creation, using it to search sources online for instance, as opposed to replacing editors entirely. This article is not formed like an encyclopedia article usually is here, and does not follow our Manual of Style. And I would only say this in defense of this article that it might lack substantial reliable sources, but I would not use the word "many" for it. Because many of the sources are reliable. Just like Wikiwordssmith mentioned, you are not looking on the bright side here. The L'Officiel magazine source or Out magazine are not reliable? His book was recently published by Rizzoli Libri, and they have it on their official website; it looks notable enough and a reliable source to me. It was indeed deleted only once so I've amended that, Releasing a book and being named in a trivial list as "50 Hottest Male Models of All Time" doesn't automatically mean they're notable, The English Wikipedia deemed this as non notable because of lack of INDEPTH coverage which I also agree with.

As far as I know, there hasn't been a proposed common ancestor for the Allemanic languages, that is, Upper German varieties spoken around Southwestern Germany, as opposed to the other Upper German varieties spoken in Austria and Bavaria. Indeed, they all can be traced back to Old High German, but I haven't found any reliable sources for a more immediate ancestor of the Allemanic languages.   @DaneGeld Unfortunately A4 is only reserved for people, groups, companies, products, services or websites - I'm not sure a school would come under a company.   @Davey2010 - I don't think of it as a company, but as a service. Schools are services provided by authorities, to support education. Anyhow, I'm not going to QD it, because I asked admins to check to see if it had been QD'd before, and they said to leave the RFD up. It's been on here a year, and another week isn't going to hurt!
